It’s been about a month since my last update (April 7), so here is the latest. As far as the Moonspinner business is concerned, the beaches are still closed to out-of-state vacation rentals, and so are we. We have had to cancel many reservations. Jackie and her staff have worked with our customers to maintain a good relationship, and so as this COVID-19 issue dissipates, I still hope for a reasonably good summer. I personally expect the Governor will open the beaches later this month. As previously announced, we have canceled the scheduled May 15, 2020 Board Meeting and associated Committee Meetings. We are reviewing how to best proceed with the Annual Homeowner’s Meeting and associated Board Meetings in August.
The CARES Act includes a provision for a Payroll Protection Program (PPP) whereby small businesses – such as the Moonspinner – can apply for an SBA loan. That loan can be forgiven if qualifications are met. Our loan application was submitted and approved by Trustmark, and loan paperwork is signed. We expect to receive the money any minute. At this time, we are maintaining our staff. We have a good group, and these folks would be difficult to replace, so we need to keep them if possible. Regarding Hurricane Michael, the insurance company is reviewing the additional information furnished as a result of my examination and testimony in February. We expect to hear back from them soon. The work is still ongoing to finalize the roof project, which we expect to begin in October. The Board has agreed to proceed with a remodel of the interior pool house restrooms. The restrooms have not been modified since being rebuilt after Hurricane Ivan (1995), and repairs are overdue. The work is in progress, and we expect it to be completed by Memorial Day. The doors into the restrooms will be replaced later in part of a broader bid package. Thanks to Debbi Jennings, John Craig, and Jackie Wysong for making this remodeling project happen. I encourage everyone to stay safe and abide by social distancing, for your benefit as well as those around you. That’s all I have for now. I will provide more information when there is something to report. Thanks for listening. Bob Reeves, HOA President
